Book Choice of the Week

3 literary events to ink in

By John Burns

September’s literary calendar is filling up fast; ink in these three ways to fete our local heroes. The Capilano Review launches its latest issue on September 13 with readings by Clint Burnham, Ryan Knighton, Daphne Marlatt, Lisa Robertson, and more. The event, $8, starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Cultch. That weekend, BC Bookworld publisher Alan Twigg hosts Reckoning 07, a conference celebrating 35 years of publishing in the province, featuring the presentation of the George Woodcock lifetime-achievement award to bill bissett. That’s September 14 and 15 at SFU Harbour Centre, $75. Finally, programs for the free, annual Word on the Street (September 30) should be back from the printer any day now; for info on the 104 events around Library Square, and the alt-comics ones beneath, drop by any Starbucks for a program or visit www.thewordonthestreet.ca/vancouver/home.asp
