Ideas of Note

The term interactive often suggests the digital world, but sometimes it’s best to use a more straightforward way to convey an important idea. The Outpost: Asian Canadians Reframed, an exhibit running until Friday (October 19) at the AMS Art Gallery in UBC’s Student Union Building, uses Post-it notes to explore preconceptions about the Asian Canadian community. These stickies are the result of surveys by UBC’s Asian Canadian Cultural Organization and SFU’s Canadianized Asian Club, carried out at the campuses of UBC, SFU, and Kwantlen College Richmond, as well as at the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library. What they express about perceptions of Asian Canadians is open to interpretation: the public is invited to add their own Post-its to the display.
