Cause for UBC Lockdown still uncertain but initial posting may reveal some clues

No official word has been issued yet as to why there was a lockdown at the UBC Biological Sciences building yesterday, when RCMP officers surrounded the building.

According to a posting by ScienceDave on Now Public (under Update 2) shortly after the incident occured, it could have been a suicide attempt: "According to an email released to faculty and gradute students working in the building, a suicidal student has been displaying threatening behaviour."

If it was in fact a suicide attempt, there are options for any who is feeling suicidal, depressed, distress, or in need of someone to talk to.
