President Bush’s former chief of staff, Karl Rove, to speak at Vancouver Art Gallery

Karl Rove is scheduled to speak at the Vancouver Art Gallery on February 18 at 6:00 p.m.

Dubbed “Bush’s Brain” by the U.S. media, the former deputy chief of staff was one of the architects of the Iraq war and a central figure in President George W. Bush’s 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns.

The event was organized by the Fraser Institute, a right-wing think tank based in Vancouver.

Even at $500 a ticket, seats are filling up fast, according to Fraser Institute director of communications Dean Pelkey.

“We’re hoping he’ll address the current US election, and provide us with his views on what he sees is happening throughout the primaries,” Pelkey told the Straight in a telephone interview.

Canada-U.S. relations are also an expected topic. But what about Iraq, Iran, or the “war on terror”?

Pelkey said that the event’s focus will be on contemporary issues.

“There will be an opportunity for people to ask [Rove] questions so its possible that people may ask those questions,” he said. “Whether or not he chooses to answer them or how he answers them, we’ll have to see.”
