Celtic and Iranian Bridges

Tehran-born Amir Haghighi sings Persian folk songs and spiritual poems in a powerful voice brimming with emotion. Amy Stephen is a harpist inspired by the hauntingly beautiful melodies of Scotland and Ireland. The husband-and-wife team blends elements from their rich musical traditions in a presentation called Celtic and Iranian Bridges, a free presentation at the Vancouver Public Library on Wednesday (April 2) at 7 p.m. The program by Haghighi and Stephen is part of the educational series Music of the Whole World, and will include guest appearances from fellow members of the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra. See www.vi-co.org for more. (And no worries if you have to miss this one: the two are scheduled to perform again on April 20, at the Centennial Theatre’s Family Festival. Check out www.centennialtheatre.com .)
