Vancouver Fashion Week
The annual celebration of Vancouver’s role as a fashion metropolis takes place between April 16 and 20. The work of local and international designers will be on display at Chapel Arts, the Opus Hotel, and Canada Place. This year, it’s headed by Jaime Schulman, who became executive director after serving as the head coordinator. Visit www.vanfashionweek.com for more details.

Portobello West
It’s become the place to go to discover Vancouver’s up-and-coming design stars. This month’s event takes place on April 27 at the Rocky Mountaineer Train Station at 1755 Cottrell Street. For more information, see www.portobellowest.com.

National Denim Day
One in nine Canadian women will be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime, accounting for 30 percent of all cancers in women. On May 13, the Cure Foundation and the Aldo Group join forces for National Denim Day to raise funds for the fight against this scourge. Home-design guru Debbie Travis is the public face of this year’s campaign. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians will wear denim and a pink-flower ribbon on that day in exchange for donations to the foundation. For more information, see www.curefoundation.com.
