Dine with stars from Corner Gas, Men in Trees, Stargate, X-Files

Just a reminder that the previously mentioned eBay auction to help raise funds for local actor Babz Chula has opened.

You can make bids on items ranging from memorabilia to dinners with stars from TV shows such as Battlestar Galactica, Corner Gas, Intelligence, Men In Trees, Prison Break, Stargate, and The X-Files. The auction closes on April 12.

To make a bid, visit the eBay list

Or if you don't want to make a bid but just want to make a donation, visit the Babz Chula Lifeline for Artists Society Web site.

Here is a message sent out by the Society:

Dear Friends,

I want to fill you in on something a group of us have been working keenly on for the past month. I have already mentioned it to a great many of you, but wanted a chance to go into a bit more detail, hoping to glean access to your hearts as well as your email mailing list.

Our very good friend, beloved (I could go on here, talented, eloquent, hilarious, infinitely courageous) Canadian actress Babz Chula has recently been diagnosed with her third cancer. A brief history: five years ago Babz successfully forced her first breast cancer into remission in relative short order. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer and at that time, with the help of many of you, friends were able to raise the funds necessary for treating this new disease both through allopathic and homeopathic care. It bought Babz two more years of good health for which she is incredibly grateful.

Unfortunately we found out just weeks ago that cancer has again reappeared—this time metastasizing into her liver. At the strong insistence of both her oncologist and her naturopath, she is embarking on both chemo and some other incredibly promising treatments, but unfortunately, due to the testing stage that some of these treatments are in, they are not yet funded by our standard Canadian health plan. That said, we are doing what anyone would do if their friend needed such help—we're trying to fund it.

We have created The Babz Chula Lifeline for Artists Society, a registered non-profit that will try to raise the money for her treatment, and as well, raise awareness about this multi-faceted disease that has touched so many of our lives. Here are some thoughts from Babz for her hope for the legacy of this society. "True healing begins with gestures of generosity and actions that we take to alleviate the suffering of others. My hope for the future include using my energy to support other artists facing similar challenges to mine. I'd like to collect and organize all the information and revelation that I've experienced on this journey and get it out to others in a comprehensive fashion."

I urge you to check out our website www.babzchulasociety.org, it will inform you of the many exciting fundraising ideas the society is launching later this week. We are very excited about it and especially want to get the word out to the many fans of the participating artists (and hard-working board members!).

If you can donate a few dollars, there is also information within the website on several simple options for which to do so.

Every dollar will go a long way, so we encourage you to cast your net and forward this as widely as you can. (For those of you on Facebook, please feel free to share it that way...) We are a non-profit society as opposed to a charity so we are unable to issue tax receipts—but really, let's not rule out the wonderful sense of good karma!!!

Remember: when forwarding, please delete all email addresses—including mine—in the interest of privacy. And let's not forget that wonderful tool: bcc.

Thank you for hearing me out, and as always, for your compassion, time, and generosity.

With love,

....Larry
