High-Wire Act

Peter Pan tonight (April 17) at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre: the company has never staged its own family-oriented story ballet, and it’s never flown quite so high before. The dancers will be donning special harnesses to soar into Never Never Land in the Canadian premiere of Washington Ballet artistic director Septime Webre’s goofy yet gravity-defying work. Look for footloose lost boys, a tangoing crocodile, and plenty of fairy dust, too—a fun departure from the troupe’s usual stripped-down, contemporary fare. It’s also the last chance to see long-time company favourite Edmond Kilpatrick; this will be his last performance after nine years with the corps. He’ll be going out in style, though: Kilpatrick plays the part of Captain Hook. Consider it all required viewing for pint-sized balletomanes and parents with, well, you-know-what syndrome.
