The Vancouver World Music Collective is a microcosm of the city’s multicultural identity, bringing together leading artists with roots in traditions from across the globe. Almost five years ago, a number of members collaborated on the creation of Music for a New World, a unique work that takes you on a journey from Ireland to Iran—by way of West Africa, China, Vietnam, South America, and the Jewish Diaspora. On Sunday (April 20) at 2 p.m., a 17-piece orchestra from the VWMC performs this brilliantly kaleidoscopic work at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver as part of the Family Festival. The music is adventurous and sophisticated, while remaining readily accessible to listeners of all ages.
