Jack White sighted on Gastown street

By Adrian Mack
There were lots of disappointed folks who didn’t make it into the Raconteurs’ sold-out Commodore show last Sunday, but a chance encounter with two of the band members in Gastown worked out for two lucky fans. “We were walking down Cordova, and there was Jack White and [drummer] Patrick Keeler,” Josh Hillrich told the Straight. “My girlfriend was talking to me, and I just blanked out when I saw that iconic face. I totally went fan-boy on his ass. I told him how I have the first three White Stripes albums on their first pressing, and how I had his poster on my wall for three years, and he was just really, really humbled, flattered, and friendly. Then the drummer asked if I was going to the show, and when I said I didn’t have tickets yet, he said, ‘It’s sold-out. Why don’t we just put you on the list.’ ”

Hillrich added that the fedora-wearing White also agreed to have his picture taken, after which Hillrich’s girlfriend, Sarah, pointed the sartorially obsessed duo in the direction of John Fluevog. And the show? “Incredible,” Hillrich said.
