Danko Jones

Danko Jones

There’s an argument to be made that Danko Jones isn’t overly proud to be Canadian. While the likes of Buck 65, Julie Doiron, and 54-40 dutifully crisscross the country every year or so, the man known to his mom as the Mango Kid prefers to spread the rock ’n’ roll gospel abroad. And hey, who can blame him? Think about it—would you rather spend your mornings on the road drinking truck-stop coffee in Prince Albert or quaffing cappuccinos in Belgium? First surfacing as part of a new-millennium rawk revival that gave us the Murder City Devils, Nashville Pussy, and the Black Halos, Jones shows no sign of going soft on his power trio’s just-released latest, Never Too Loud. As much as we don’t ask that he go changing, as polite Canadians we’re going to insist that the singer refrain from waving his tongue like Gene Simmons doing battle with a Komodo dragon when he makes one of his rare Vancouver appearances at the Commodore on Friday (May 2).
