Doing the durian requires bravery

If you haven't ever tried durian before, try it. You might not like it.

It's probably one of the most challenging flavours to ever try.

On a package of Royal Sawasdee Crispy Durian that my coworker Shannon Li brought in, it describes Thai durian as "the king of fruits". It also says that it "has the excellent taste with moderate sweet, unique aromatic flavor, creamy golden flesh, and spiny skin".

It also says that the best durian is from eastern Thailand.

If you've grown up with it, like the Straight's Carlito Pablo has, then it's no big deal.

But I had once tried durian ice cream when I was in Japan and was turned off by the oil-like smell.

I thought I'd give it another go when Shannon brought in her package of dried durian. I spat it out and had to drink water right away. It has a pungent taste that some describe as akin to "cat poo". (I can just hear the peanut gallery chanting "well have you ever tried cat poo before?")

Mike "he eats anything" Usinger (who has tried it before) ate it, but says it's not appealing to him.

If you're feeling adventurous, try it and see what happens...
