Apple's iPhone finally on way to Canada

By Jon Cranny

Rogers Wireless has announced that it will bring Apple’s iPhone to Canada sometime later this year, according to an April 29 media release.

Maintaining a tradition of hype and secrecy around the “Jesus phone”, as some fans have tagged it, Rogers president and chief executive officer Ted Rogers would only say that Canadian consumers will see the iPhone in stores before the end of 2008.

This is unfortunate news for consumers who want an iPhone but are with a different cellphone provider like Bell or Telus; Apple’s phone has only been licensed to operate in Canada on Rogers' cellphone network.

The Straight previously reported that an Apple store is scheduled to open in Vancouver sometime in the near future. So far, Apple has declined to give a specific date for that opening .
