NOFX about to get busy

By Adrian Mack
Eagle-eyed NOFX fans should be on the lookout for various band members when they arrive in Vancouver today (May 8). The San Francisco punk veterans have scheduled a day off in the Rainy City before playing the Commodore on Friday night. “[Guitarist] Eric Melvin is really into hockey,” Melanie Kaye, a rep for the band’s label, Fat Wreck Chords, told the Straight. “He’s got a hockey game lined up on all three Canadian dates, so he’s bringing all his gear. [Singer-bassist] Fat Mike is really into the golfing thing. He has a real passion for it.” Kaye couldn’t disclose where Melvin and Fat Mike would be partaking in their extracurricular activities, but noted that fans can catch Fat Mike on CFOX’s Punk-O-Rama show on Thursday at 11 p.m.

“The fact that he’s going there for an hour and bringing his own CDs—I was amazed!” she said, echoing Punk-O-Rama host Mary-Anne Korosi, who told the Straight, “I’m surprised that he’s doing it, and I can’t freakin’ wait. He’s never been on before. Greg Graffin from Bad Religion has been on, Jello Biafra—everybody has done the hour except for Fat Mike, so Thursday night is his night to pay his dues.”

Asked what we should expect from Fat Mike’s appearance, Korosi answered, “Lots of vulgarity.”
