Next-generation video games getting players off the couch

When I was growing up, video games were simple. You had two buttons to mash, and levels were simple but difficult. You sat on your couch for hours stuffing your face full of Cheetos. My friends and I used to call Nintendo “Nofriendo”, since most of the games were designed for one player. I always dreamed of games that were more interactive and friend-friendly.

Now that it is the “future”, my wishes have come true. Games have come out that are made to get you off of the couch, such as Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band.

The granddaddy of getting gamers out of their seats is, of course, the Wii console. Wii Fit is a whole game dedicated to aerobics and fitness. There are even rumours of a pole-dancing game being developed for the Wii. Xbox 360 is also sponsoring National Family Fitness Day in the U.S. on May 12.

The first time you try more interactive games, you might feel a little weird and nerdy. Just relax and let yourself get into it; you will most likely find yourself having a good time. If you are trying to organize a board-game night but the group or family you’re with doesn’t find board games “cool” enough, then give some Wii games or Rock Band a try.

It’s hard to say that games are just for kids or for lazy nerds anymore because the way the video-game industry is moving promises to produce more social and healthier gamers.

I can't imagine why some people would feel weird and nerdy playing Wii...

At least she's getting a work out...... a weird, uncomfortable to watch work out.

I'm still waiting for Wii XXX.

You'll be waiting a while, it can't be done. Explanation here:

Ah yes, the uncanny valley. Still, having heard Mike Usinger confess his lust for Final Fantasy's Aki Ross, and knowing that there are actually people who own and use Realdolls (NSFW alert), I have a feeling there are plenty of people who can overlook such things as not-quite-lifelike eyes.
