A Prairie Dog’s life is at home

Graham Brown and the Prairie Dogs will return to the Vancouver live scene as conquering heroes when they play the Railway Club on Saturday (June 21). The roots rockers were recently in the U.K., where two shows at the International Pop Overthrow festival in Liverpool saw them play to standing-room only capacity at the Cavern Club and Lennon’s Pub.

The response was so good that Lennon’s kept the band on for an impromptu second night. Brown and his cohorts also recorded two sessions for the BBC (coming soon to www.grahambrownsongs.com/).

As Brown notes, this isn’t a particularly new phenomenon for Vancouver’s Americana crowd. “I knew we’d do well,” he told the Straight. “The band’s good, man! And there’s a huge following for roots-rock kind of stuff over there. When you walk in with your cowboy boots and western shirt or whatever, it’s like a piece of the American songwriter myth for them or something.”

Although the trip prompted negotiations for a full-blown tour of Britain and Germany, Brown isn’t planning on relocating. “It’s a nice place to visit, but I still like living here,” he said. “I’ve travelled all over the world, and let me tell you, it’s always nice coming home. This is the best country to live in.”
