Summer looking good for social gamers in Vancouver

Gamer geeks will be pleased to know that this weekend not only marks the first weekend of the summer, but also the first of several gamer events around the city.

On Saturday (June 21), friendly local game stores will be taking part in the international event Free RPG Day. The stores, together with game publishers, will be providing new role-playing games to anyone who drops by.

The goal of Free RPG Day is to get gamers inspired to play a new RPG or two (and say maybe buy a new set of dice while you’re at it). The Vancouver Gaming Guild has a list of participating local stores.

It looks like the VGG is also promoting a bunch of gamer gatherings this summer as well: the grassroots organized Wayward Cons held at game stores throughout the Lower Mainland, plus Spike 2008 - Canada’s Championship Blood Bowl tournament at the start of August, Cloud City which is being run at Anime Evolution at the end of August, and HarnCon is happening on Labour Day weekend.

Even further off near the end of our pending extended summer is the venerable VCON 33.

I’ll be hitting a few of these up for sure. Dust off your dice anyone?
