Screen legend Dev Anand mobbed on visit to Vancouver

During a two-day visit to Vancouver as part of an Indian trade delegation, 84-year-old film icon Dev Anand was mobbed by fans at a June 19 meet-and-greet session at Surrey's Bollywood Banquet Hall.

The Guide and Mr. Prime Minister star posed for photos and signed copies of Romancing With Life, his 2007 autobiography.

The actor is in preproduction on a new film, titled Charge Sheet.

Asked if he would consider shooting a film in Vancouver, Anand said, "I have a few ideas set in Canada. If something grows in my mind and I get hung on that, then I'm lost in the idea and I'll certainly come and shoot the film here."

While the Indian film industry may be changing rapidly, the basics remain the same, in Anand's view.

"Motion-picture making today is big money, big audience, and big promotion, but ultimately only a good story runs-it was true then and it remains so now," he said.
