Canucks snap up Kyle Wellwood off waivers

Kyle Wellwood was put on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Canucks swooped in and picked him up. The small but shifty centre should add some depth to the Canucks' roster as long as he can stay healthy.

Last year, Wellwood was plagued with a groin injury and broken foot that limited him to playing only 59 games. Wellwood's best season was with the Leafs in 2006-07,  when he finished with 42 points in 48 games.

Another signing, or re-signing I should say, that drew close to completion today was for Tampa Bay powerhouse Vincent Lecavalier.

On the table for Lecavalier is a purported US$77 million-dollar deal to keep him in Florida for nine years. Tampa also reacquired Vaclav Prospal and drafted number-one pick Steve Stamkos. All they need now is a goalie and they could be Stanley Cup contenders.

Let’s hope the Canucks have a few more moves up their sleeves.
