Frances Bula resigns from the Vancouver Sun
The Vancouver Sun's veteran municipal-affairs reporter, Frances Bula, has quit her job at the CanWest MediaWorks metropolitan daily paper.
In a posting on her blog today on the Vancouver Sun site, Bula announced that she is leaving, but provided no explanation for her decision.
"As for me, I will continue with other forms of journalism, including blogging, but, unless there is an unforeseeable turn in my life in the next few years, I won't be embedded in a daily-news operation any more as I have been for the past 25 years of my life," Bula wrote.
Bula has been on the municipal beat since 1994, covering several elections, the rise of the harm-reduction movement and the four-pillars approach to drug addiction in Vancouver, the departure of mayors Philip Owen and Larry Campbell from municipal politics, and the recent hotly contested mayoral-nomination races for Vision Vancouver and the NPA.
She studied housing issues for a year after being chosen for a prestigious Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy in 1998.
