Coun. Kim Capri won’t run provincially, seeks re-election

First-term city councillor Kim Capri says she has decided not to seek the B.C. Liberal nomination for the Vancouver-Fairview seat that was vacated on July 15 by former NDP MLA Gregor Robertson.

Robertson is running for mayor with the Vision Vancouver party.

In a phone interview with the Straight on July 18, Capri said that running provincially for her may be “a bit too soon”.

Instead, the Non-Partisan Association councillor confirmed that she will seek another term in council. Capri was endorsed as a council candidate at the first NPA nomination meeting on June 8.

“I got caught up with all the excitement and the possibility of Liberals taking back Vancouver-Fairview,” she said of having entertained the prospect of going provincial.

Capri related that the turning point came after a strategy session held at her house, where one supporter asked her, “Kim, do you really want this?”

“I woke up in the middle of the night later, and realized that I’ve never really said, ”˜Yes, I want it,’” Capri said.
