Subversive iTunes blocked in China

China’s government and people are miffed at Apple and their subversive music, according to a report in today's Guardian. Earlier this month, the Songs for Tibet album with some of the usual politically minded suspects went up for sale in China through iTunes and ruffled some feathers.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. If they care about a couple of old ladies’ protestations, then of course they are going to clamp down on Moby and Sting.

Part of me wonders if it isn’t just a clever media ploy to help boost sales everywhere else ("Our album wasn’t allowed in China! Checkout this album that only 40 athletes in China got to listen to before it was blocked!").

Something about this Olympics brings out the cynic in me, I guess.
