Parties and politics define New Forms Festival

For 2008, the 10-day New Forms Festival has been split into five streams, ranging from a semisecret colloquium on Vancouver’s urban future (Artcamp08) to several very public concert presentations. Some festival features are geared toward digital illuminati, but the ones below have more general appeal. For a full schedule, visit www.newformsfestival.com/.

NFF08 exhibitions
The video component of the New Forms Festival takes an explicitly political tack, examining corporate culture (POL1T1C), emerging South American realities (Digital Chile_08), and the ongoing emergence of China as a global superpower (The Red Time of the Three Gorges). At the VIVO Media Arts Centre until September 27.

Mosaic soundz
Cross-cultural pollination flourishes in this dance party, with music from globetrotting audio explorer Maga Bo and the locally based Beats Without Borders Collective. At Open Studios next Friday (September 26).

Techforms
New forms closes with an audiovisual rave featuring DJ Scott W., five live electronic acts, and four video painters exploring the theme of man and machine. At Open Studios next Saturday (September 27).
