Although several television and print outlets quickly come to mind, none can beat our local Global TV news when it comes to daily airing of stories and news-conference items from the Vancouver police and RCMP. Some nights it seems as if the whole first half of the news was supplied by the blue crew. Hey, it beats having to go out and dig up a real story. But the downside is that viewers are consistently left with the impression that they are living in a crime-riddled reality-TV show, when rates of crime against people and property have been dropping steadily for years. The police are always alert for opportunities to make their case for more money, cops, and toys, and some organizations are just as quick to help them, sadly. The old media adage "If it bleeds, it leads" appears to be Global's guiding light.
