Photographer captures Insite concert shutdown

On Thursday (October 23), Vancouver police shut down what was supposed to be a free outdoor concert held in support of Insite, the city’s supervised injection site.

According to a CBC News report, more than 100 Vancouver police officers backed up city officials as they moved to shut down the event, which was taking place on the 100 block of East Hastings Street, just a few doors down from Insite.

The CBC News report said that no violence was reported and no arrests were made.

The event was to feature the Juno Award-winning group Bedouin Soundclash.

Andriy Mishchenko, a Vancouver-based independent photographer, was present when officials moved in to end the concert and barbecue. The following are a sample of his photos from the event. A complete gallery is available at Mishchenko’s Web site.
