New on DVD: Monty Python, Gonzo, Hannah Montana, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, Tropic Thunder, WALL-E

DVD releases for November 18, 2008.

The Complete Monty Python’s Flying Circus
While the entire Flying Circus series has been released several times before, the newest 21-disc release brings fans something completely—well, slightly—different. Highlights include two behind-the-scenes documentaries, four live specials (including Live at the Hollywood Bowl), and three discs featuring each cast member’s favourite episodes.

Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson
Narrated by Johnny Depp, the latest documentary by Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side) traces the life of the godfather of Gonzo journalism, including his work with Rolling Stone, his hatred of Richard Nixon, and his 2005 suicide.

Hannah Montana: The Complete First Season
The whole premise for this show is flawed: a tweener with a secret identity as a rock star? Like a teenager could keep a secret. This four-disc set features all 26 episodes of the first season, cast interviews, and the featurette “Back Home Again With Miley”.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2
Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, and Blake Lively reunite as four friends bound together by a pair of pants that fits each of them perfectly. The sequel picks up a year after the first film, with the friends dealing with the new loves, lives, and adventures that separate them.

Tropic Thunder
After a group of spoiled actors gets dropped into the Vietnam jungle to shoot a war movie, they have to fight their way out for real after encountering a gang of drug dealers. Cowritten, directed by, and starring Ben Stiller, the film gained notoriety for featuring Robert Downey Jr. in blackface and its portrayal of individuals with disabilities.

WALL•E
A little robot named WALL•E has been cleaning up garbage on an uninhabited Earth for 700 years, but with only a cockroach for a friend, he’s awfully lonely. After EVE, an explorer robot from a human spaceship, comes to the planet to search for signs of life, WALL•E falls in love and follows her back to her ship. This animated feature features the voices of Elissa Knight, Fred Willard (Best in Show), and sound designer Ben Burtt (famous for making the distinctive lightsaber hum in Star Wars).
