Vision takes all Metro Vancouver board positions

Vision Vancouver has assumed all of the city's directorships on the board of Metro Vancouver, shutting out COPE councillors David Cadman and Ellen Woodsworth and the NPA's Suzanne Anton.

On December 8, Vancouver city council voted to appoint Mayor Gregor Robertson and Vision councillors Heather Deal, Raymond Louie, George Chow, Tim Stevenson, and Andrea Reimer as Vancouver's directors on the regional board. According to Metro Vancouver spokesperson Glenn Bohn, directors are paid $252.82 for every meeting they attend that lasts less than four hours. Bohn told the Straight that the pay per meeting increases to $505.64 for meetings that last longer than four hours.

Vision overlooked Cadman even though he worked for the regional government for 19 years and has focused enormous attention on regional land-use, transportation, and drinking-water policies. Cadman was appointed as chair of council's committee on transportation and traffic, a position that doesn't include any extra income. Council appointed Louie as chair of the city services and budgets committee and Reimer as chair of the planning and environment committee.

Metro Vancouver is responsible for regional planning, air quality, drinking water, and many other areas of regional concern. In the early part of this decade, Cadman helped lead a public campaign to prevent Metro Vancouver from turning over control of the regional drinking-water supply to a private operator.
