Black Mountain wins a Bucky award

The Bucky Awards were announced December 17 on CBC Radio 3, and listeners across Canada expressed their exquisite taste by voting Black Mountain's “Stormy High” the winner for best hook of 2008. The only other B.C. act to get the nod was Mother Mother, who scored best vocals for “Body of Years”, but Radio 3 executive director Steve Pratt told the Straight that he was pleased with the “generally balanced” geographic representation of the awards, which celebrate independent Canadian music. “And it was all chosen by the audience,” he said. Other winners include Holy Fuck for best live act, and Chad VanGaalen's “Willow Tree” in the future classic category.
