Council votes unanimously to save York Theatre

Vancouver City Council voted unanimously this morning to save the York Theatre, agreeing to 100-percent capital funding for the site through a mix of density transfer, property-tax exemption, and capital funding.

Staff had recommended only a one-third density transfer, which  advocates working to  secure the theatre's future said would effectively kill  plans to save the venue.

Now all that's left is for developer Bruno Wall to negotiate a deal with current property owner Paul Phillips, head of Vintage Development Corp., before January 15, when a 120-day protection order from the city expires.

More details to follow.
