Make yr twttr posts fit w/ TweetShrink

With posts on Twitter each limited to 140 characters, fitting everything you want to say into one tweet can be a challenge.

Users of the microblogging service often turn to URL shorteners like Bit.ly, TinyURL, and Twurl for help. These take long Web addresses and mint concise aliases for them, saving precious space.

Last week, the Straight looked at Krunchd, which bills itself as a tool to “shorten” multiple links into one URL.

Now, TweetShrink is offering to help Twitter users make their posts even more succinct.

All you have to do is enter text in the box on the Web site and hit Shrink. TweetShrink abridges your words just like someone writing a text message would.

For example, the site converted the phrase “Make your Twitter posts fit with TweetShrink” into this blog post’s title.

The site also tells you how many letters it’s “shaved” and allows you to post directly to Twitter.

TweetDeck, the best desktop Twitter app out there, includes TweetShrink functionality in its version 0.20.7 pre-release, which became available yesterday (December 22).

It’s a good idea, but let’s hope TweetShrink doesn’t catch on too well.

If everyone starts posting 2 twttr lk this, it’ll get annoying quickly.
