While the Rendez-vous du cinema québécois et francophone (which kicks off today) will highlight French-language Canadian films, English-language Canadian films will be included in the Canada International Film Festival (also known as CFF) this weekend.
One of the Canadian selections is a 35-minute documentary about homelessness in Metro Vancouver. "Something to Eat, a Place to Sleep & Someone Who Gives a Damn", directed by Les Merson, takes a look at the homeless population as well as those who work with them. The 2008 Homeless Count listed 2,594 homeless people living in Vancouver, which was an increase of 19 percent from 2005.
The CFF screenings, which includes features and shorts from around the world and across the country, will be held on Sunday (February 8) at the Firehall Arts Centre (280 East Cordova).
At the awards ceremony on Sunday (10 p.m.), the winners of juried and audience awards (including a cash prize for the Grand Jury Award) will be announced.
