Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson to take part in Hockey for the Homeless

Taking time out from elbowing environmental issues and cross-checking crime, Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson is the latest high-profile personality slated to do his part to high-stick homelessness next week.

Robertson has agreed to take part in Hockey for the Homeless on Friday (February 20) at UBC’s Thunderbird Winter Sports Centre. The mayor will join several former Vancouver Canucks and a number of local business leaders as they lace up the blades and take part in a hockey game designed to raise money and awareness to combat homelessness in Metro Vancouver.

The event started in Toronto in 1996 and has since expanded to Montreal and Calgary. In a dozen years, more than $2 million has been raised across the country. Hockey for the Homeless makes its Vancouver debut next on February 20 and has set a lofty goal of raising $75,000 in its first year on the West Coast.

All money raised in Vancouver will stay in Vancouver and will be used to fund specific homelessness reintegration projects and programs at a variety of Vancouver charities. For more information, game schedules and to donate, visit www.hockeyforthehomeless.com/.
