Vancouver Twestival raises more than $4,000 for charity: water

The Vancouver Twestival has raised $4,011 for clean-water projects in developing countries, and that figure is expected to rise.

The sold-out event at the Opus Hotel was one of more than 175 fundraisers for charity: water held last night (February 12) in cities around the world.

All of them were organized on Twitter, the popular microblogging service.

Local organizer Rebecca Bollwitt, aka Miss 604, noted on her blog yesterday that $4,000 is enough to build one well.

Twestival founder Amanda Rose, a Canadian living in London, tweeted today (February 13) that Toronto's and New York City's fundraisers raised more than $10,000 and $22,000, respectively, and numbers from other Twestivals were continuing to come in.
