Spinal Tap returns! (without the wigs)

Are you ready to Smell the Glove again?

Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer—the comic actors and musicians who made a mockery of heavy metal in Rob Reiner's classic 1984 spoof This Is Spinal Tap—are set to play the Centre for Performing Arts in Vancouver on April 17.

This time around there will be no amps capable of going up to 11, though, as the trio will perform acoustic versions of songs made famous through their Spinal Tap guise as well as mellower tunes from their days as the Folksmen in the 2003 film A Mighty Wind.

Tix for the Georgia Straight presentation, known as "Unwigged & Unplugged", go on sale to the general public on March 6 at 10 am, $59.50 and $49.50 (plus service charges and fees) at www.ticketmaster.ca/. And for those diehard Tap fans who can't risk missing an acoustic version of "Big Bottoms", the Georgia Straight presale will run Thursday, March 5, from 10 am to 10 pm. Visitors to straight.com who sign up for "The List -enewsletter" before this Wednesday will receive the required password.

No word yet on who the exploding drummer will be.
