Savory burek flies off the shelves

Burek isn’t a common snack here like it is in Turkey and the Balkan region. Yet this savoury treat still flies off the shelves at Dollenkamp’s Bakery (2778 West Broadway). The bakery’s Bosnian version is a U-shaped roll of filo pastry wrapped around a choice of fillings such as feta cheese, and zucchini and onion. The ground beef and cabbage version ($3.24) goes well with a dollop of yogurt and puts a nice dent in your midday hunger. The proprietors make only about 20 burek each day (most often the filo is made from scratch), so drop by early to get one.
