Top movies in Canada: Feb. 27 to March 5, 2009

The 1989 Montreal massacre drama Polytechnique held its position at the top of the Canadian box office for a fourth straight week.

Stone of Destiny, the charming caper flick from Vancouver-based director Charles Martin Smith, continued to draw audiences this week, while the macabre Cadavres slipped from second to fourth on the list.

This week’s Canadian top five was rounded out by the new releases Le bonheur de Pierre and Finn on the Fly.

On the international front, Slumdog Millionaire, buoyed by its recent Oscars sweep, continued to dominate at the box office with a second week at number one, although it will likely be bumped out of the top spot next week by Watchmen.

The only new film to the international list this week was Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert. Despite only opening in 99 theatres across Canada, Disney’s ode to all things Jonas made a modest showing this week, coming in at number five and knocking the mediocre horror flick Friday the 13th off the list.
