B.C. Liberal platform has photos galore of Gordon Campbell

Last autumn, I thought Vision Vancouver might have set a record for the most photos of a leader in a party platform. Every time I turned the page, it seemed like I was confronted with another photo of Gregor Robertson.

But I think the B.C. Liberals have outdone Vision's spin doctors. I counted 25 photos of Premier Gordon Campbell in the B.C. Liberal platform, which was released yesterday.

That's more photos of the premier than the entire number of women running for the party: 24. (The NDP has 42 female candidates.)

The Liberal document mostly rehashes what has already happened in government. But there are a few new proposals, including:

* a 76 percent reduction in government advertising (I guess with Canwest on the ropes and the Aspers about to lose control, there's no need for the B.C. Liberals to  fork over as much public money to this Winnipeg-based corporation in the next term.)

* a 20 percent reduction in senior executives working for the government

* a 22 percent cut in government travel expenditures

* reducing the  small-business income tax to the lowest rate in Canada by April 1, 2012. For more information on this proposal, go here.

* pusing for a "single-window" process of environmental assessments, which would combine federal and provincial processes

* pursue "Open Skies" agreements to allow airlines to land at any airport that can handle their business (Now, for instance, airlines cannot fly directly from Vancouver to Paris.)

* work with TransLink, B.C.Transit, and postsecondary institutions to introduce a common U-Pass program for all postsecondary students in the province

* try to persuade the federal government to allow the first $20,000 of seniors' pension income to be completely tax exempt with no penalties or clawbacks on any income earned above that amount

* legislate a new  residents' bill of rights  setting out commitments to care and to the rights of seniors in residential care facilities

I wonder if they will also include the infamous mugshot of Gordon Campbell when he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Hawaii?
The BC Liberal Party is nothing other than the Social Credit Party of BC in Rita Johnson's skirt.

British Columbian families can't trust Gordon Campbell to keep his promises.
Campbell promised to not privatize BC Rail, to cap tuition fees, improve acute care and build 5,000 new long-term beds. Eight years of broken promises is enough!!!

P.S. -- the BC NDP have 42 female candidates, just for the record, Charlie ;)

H.R. is correct on the number of female candidates. I adjusted the copy above to reflect this.

Give me something pretty to look at, why not as its the century for it. As I was thanking the makeup counter girl at shoppers as she loaded up the finest looking fellow I've seen in a long time with all the skin treatments out there. And as he leaving I smiled and thanked her for keeping Vancouver's men so beautiful. She just smiled as so did I as we know who really is the fine feathered bird as another peacock struts his stuff.

I got sorta side tracked but Mr. Campbell has a very tailored, meticulous and sophisticated look. While we have Robertson who looks like he may jump into a phone booth and come out wearing a superman's suit to save a resident from a dangerous felon or a falling bridge as part of the days work as super mayor. And he just may have to be that if city ambulances or policing services take anymore cuts.
Robertson does the city justice when it come to celebrating Vancouver as his wide open smile and gueniue hospitality are a welcome format for positive change.
And I know your thinking Robertson supported Campbell as he busily is trying to take it back but really its okay as Mr. Robertson would do well to stay out of politics while the race is on. And continue on with his job as mayor and host to one of the more exciting cities out there. Or so they say but one thing for sure Charlie one could never accuse BC's politics of being dull.
