James Ridge is the latest senior bureaucrat to leave Vancouver city hall

After the Vision Vancouver-controlled city council replaced city manager Judy Rogers last December, I engaged in some idle speculation on the Straight.com politics blog.

"Deputy city managers James Ridge and Jody Andrews can’t be sleeping too soundly this evening," I wrote in  a post last December.

Andrews quit the following month. And today (April 28), UBC announced that it has hired Ridge as its new registrar and associate vice president.

Prior to joining the City of Vancouver, Ridge was the chief administrative officer in the District of North Vancouver.

With Ridge leaving, it creates an opportunity for the City to enhance diversity in the senior management team, which is mostly unilingual, mostly male,  and almost entirely  Caucasian.

Ridge's departure follows the resignations of finance director Estelle Lo, fire chief Ray Holdgate, Olympic operations boss Dave Rudberg, Andrews, and Rogers. Holdgate and Rudberg each retired.
