Tackle Me, for a Dollar at the Public Lounge
The local artists’ collective Never Be Lonely is set to ensure you never look at panhandlers the same way again. Its new show “Tackle Me, for a Dollar” documents a project last January in which one of its members stood in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery offering to get tackled for the price of one dollar. Yes, there was some rough stuff: as Randall Okita's photos and videos exhibited at the Public Lounge starting Sunday (May 17) show, he was jumped on by a steady stream of strangers. But he was also helped up, offered coffee, and even hugged. Strangely meaningful or utterly ridiculous? Make up your mind at Sunday’s opening event, where you can talk to some of the artists involved in the stunt.
