Powell Street Festival relocates to Woodland Park

By Jessica Werb,

Vancouver's long-running Powell Street Festival, which normally takes place in Oppenheimer Park, is being relocated to Woodland Park this summer.

The largest Japanese Canadian festival and the longest-running community arts festival in the Lower Mainland, it is being forced to the alternate site because of construction plans at Oppenheimer Park.

In a news release, the festival’s general manager and programming director Kristen Lambertson said the festival would return to Oppenheimer Park in 2010.

Woodland Park, located in the 700-block of Woodland Drive off of Commercial Drive between Hastings and Venables was chosen by a relocation committee. This year's festival will take place August 1 and 2.
