Unite With Art Auction and Gala in Gastown

The annual Unite With Art Auction and Gala is trying to take a slice out of a frightening statistic: every day around the globe, 1,800 children under the age of 15 are infected with HIV. At the event on Wednesday (June 3) at the old Storyeum space in Gastown, a silent auction and the sale of more than 40 art and design works will go toward UNICEF and its partners’ Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS campaign, which aims to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015. On the block are pieces by photographer Fred Herzog (whose Three Theatres, shown here, will be auctioned off), painter Ross Penhall, painter David Wilson, and many more. In 2008, its inaugural year, the event raised a not-too-shabby $276,000 for the cause.
