Fat Pig at Performance Works
Playwright Neil LaBute isn’t just cutting; he’s a ruthless Edward Scissorhands when it comes to slicing and dicing our social mores. If you don’t shy away from controversy and enjoyed the uncomfortable laughs of his scripts in movies like In the Company of Men and Your Friends and Neighbors, hurry down to Performance Works before Fat Pig shuts down Saturday (May 30). The work is as in-your-face as the title suggests, but it just might also be one of LaBute’s sharpest critiques. In it, a guy falls for a sexy, vivacious plus-sized gal, then faces the abuse of his shallow buddies. Kathryn Kirkpatrick and Lawrence Haegert are the central couple of young actors tackling the squirm-inducing material. Word-of-mouth is hot on this one.
