Bonnie Tyler: A Literal Eclipse of the Heart

When music videos first came out, I remember my father saying that he didn't understand why so many of the images didn't match what the lyrics were about.

Well, he need wonder no more.

YouTubians have provided a number of literal music video versions of old pop hits like a-ha's "Take On Me" or Starship's "We Built This City".

In these revamped music videos, the vocal tracks are dubbed over with lyrics that describe play-by-play descriptions of what's happening on screen.

One of the funniest of these is the literal video version of Bonnie Tyler's melodramatic classic "Total Eclipse of the Heart". With its creepy, pre-A&F sexualized shots of pubescent boys and B-movie attempts at surrealism, it was ripe for commentary.
