Stallone, Richards, Routh: Hollywood stars in Bollywood rom-com Kambakkht Ishq

The once-disparate worlds of Hollywood and Bollywood continue their string of tentative attempts to collaborate. The latest  offering that will allow audiences to get a taste of Hollywood stars in a Bollywood feature.

Watch the trailer for Kambakkht Ishq.

On Canada Day, the new Bollywood rom-com Kambakkht Ishq opens in Vancouver at Denman Theatre. The film will feature Akshay Kumar (Singh is Kinng) and Kareena Kapoor (Tashan) in a battle of the sexes. Kumar portrays Viraj, a womanizing Hollywood stuntman who meets his match with Simrita, a feminist supermodel with dreams of becoming a surgeon.

(Of course, they fall for each other, which is when the sparks fly.)

Along the way, Hollywood presence is represented by the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, and Brandon Routh. Even Australian pop star and actress Holly Valance makes an appearance.

Does this mean we'll see Rambo or Rocky Balboa or Superman shaking their booties in a song-and-dance number?

Several other Bollywood-Hollywood collaborations have debuted this year. Warner Brothers coproduced the first Bollywood-martial arts comedy Chandni Chowk to China (which also stars Kumar), in an attempt to simultaneously crack the South Asian and Chinese markets. Disney also got into the act with the animated feature Roadside Romeo, a joint venture with Yash Raj Films.

It'll be interesting to see how well Kambakkht Ishq fares at the box office, and if it will be a sign of more Bollywood-Hollywood mashups to come.
