Shuswap fire claims daughter of Electric Company Theatre leaders

Vancouver’s theatre community is reeling from the news that Azra Young, the 14-year-old daughter and only child of Electric Company Theatre founders Jonathon Young and Kim Collier, perished in a cabin fire on Shuswap Lake July 23. The fire also claimed Azra’s cousins, 14-year-old Fergus Conway and his 10-year-old sister Phoebe Conway.

“It is just an unfathomable tragedy,” said Karen Berkhout, board president of Electric Company.

The company’s biggest upcoming project is Tear the Curtain!, a 2010 Cultural Olympiad coproduction with the Arts Club Theatre Company.
