Vancouver actor and rap artist Baba Brinkman has been honoured with a prestigious award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world and the grandaddy of fringe festivals everywhere. Brinkman today received one of the Scotsman Fringe First Awards recognizing outstanding new stage writing at the festival, for his latest work, The Rap Guide to Evolution (available in audio form here).

It may have been just a matter of time before Brinkman’s work got the nod, given how much critical enthusiasm his piece The Rebel Cell managed to whip up at last year’s edition of the Edinburgh Fringe. He’s been turning heads internationally since 2004, when he debuted the work he’s perhaps most widely known for, The Rap Canterbury Tales.
