Top movies in Canada: 1981 knocks De pere down from number one
It finally happened.
The box office champion of domestic cinema, De pí¨re en flic, was knocked out of the top spot after a nine-week rule.
Ricardo Trogi's 1981, an autobiographical story about adjusting to a more affluent neighbourhood as a 10-year-old, took the number one position.
On its opening September 4 weekend, it ranked number 15 on the international charts in Canada (with $105,647), but slipped to number 17 this past weekend (with $100,540).
The sole English-language film, The Time Keeper, dropped out of the top five Canadian films.
Meanwhile, Inglourious Basterds reclaimed the number one spot, after losing out to The Final Destination the previous week.
This past September 11 weekend, Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself ruled the North American box office charts, but in Canada, the animated 9 reigned supreme.
