Vancouver Opera puts Edel Rodriguez-designed snowboards on the auction block

New Jersey-based Edel Rodriguez, the illustrator of the Vancouver Opera's 2009-2010 posters, has seen these works taken to a new—and appropriately Vancouver—medium: the snowboard.

Last night (October 6), Rodriguez was on-hand at a VO gala to autograph four snowboards that feature the art-deco-styled images he created for the VO's presentations of Norma, Nixon in China, The Marriage of Figaro, and Madama Butterfly. The snowboards will be auctioned off in early December as part of a fundraiser for the opera.

Born in Havana, Cuba in 1971, Rodriguez has designed images for everything from children's books and stamps to covers for magazines such as the New Yorker, as well as spending 14 years at Time magazine as an art director. The posters he created for the VO were selected by Communication Arts magazine for its July Illustration Annual, one of the world's most renowned illustration competitions.
