Diana Dilworth: New Westminster-Coquitlam needs a strong voice in government

By Diana Dilworth

The cities of New Westminster, Coquitlam, and Port Moody have not been represented by a government MP for nearly four decades. While our riding has had representation by opposition MPs in the past, the people of our communities now have the opportunity to send their issues to the forefront of the federal decision-making process. I will work hard on your behalf as your voice in government.

Canadians elected strong leadership for our country as a result of the 2006 general election. Through two consecutive minority parliaments, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has succeeded in bringing clear direction to the major issues facing Canadians.

Our Conservative government is tackling the issues, providing sensible solutions, and fixing problems. These fixes have come by the way of reforms. Reforms to the economy, reforms to the governing process, and reforms to the way our provincial voices are heard in parliament. While American banks failed and British banks were nationalized, Canadian banks remained strong and solvent thanks in part to measures taken by the Conservative government. These are just some of the hallmark issues that Prime Minister Harper and the government have successfully addressed.

As Western Canadians, we value good healthcare and access to a quality education. We value justice and expect the rule of law to be upheld. We value a society that works for the interest of all people and not just a few. As your representative in government, I will work diligently to advocate for these values.

My experience in the community as a municipal politician has brought me close to the people that I will advocate for in the federal arena. I know the issues, and I have been able to keep my finger on the pulse of our riding over many years. I have kept my ears open to the voice of the people, I know the issues and understand them, and, above all, I care.

I believe that Canada’s parliamentarians must focus on helping Canadian families of all structures and demographics succeed and live comfortably. As a single parent, I have experienced some of the more prevalent social struggles in life. These struggles have given me a better, more complete view of society—a view that I will take with me to Parliament. With this view in mind, I pledge to be New Westminster, Coquitlam, and Port Moody’s voice in Ottawa, not Ottawa’s voice in New Westminster-Coquitlam.

Western Canadians, like all Canadians, have created change for the better by working together. As your MP in government, I will work with you to help create change in our riding, our province, and our country.

The people of our communities have an opportunity to elect strong representation and strong leadership that will benefit all of us. It is my belief that I can provide that leadership and representation, and that on election day the people of New Westminster, Coquitlam, and Port Moody will agree and vote Diana Dilworth.

Diana Dilworth is the federal Conservative candidate for New Westminster-Coquitlam.

Of course we need a narcissistic ego maniac to run our government in total control for the 4 years after a general election. What tripe! What we need is a government who listens to the average person not the corporate elite. The last person we need leading the country is Harper and his minions. What we need is a truly democratic government of the people, for the people, by the people! Sound familiar? Not to a Conservative!

First of all you will do exactly what Harpo tells you to, when and if he tells you to do it. The muzzle is on.

You claim on your website to have .."become a passionate voice for economic, environmental and social sustainability. " Yet those are three things the Harpo is completely against. Rape and pillage our economy, environment and social structure is the Conservative (Neocon) agenda.

A very effective strategy Harper has adopted is to appoint spokesmodel types to candidacies. They attract a lot of votes from disenchanted male voters. They are difficult to beat if a bunch of Harpo HQ mandated membership buys from the local fundamentalist church fixes the vote in a nomination battle.

What is your church affiliation and how many of your supporters originated there?

The CRTC has just denied New Westminster citizens net neutrality. What is your stand on this? Do you think having a third world telecom system in your constituency is just peachy or will you advocate for change?

Take off the muzzle and let us know.

Who would you like to run the country? Jack Layton, a movement and party out of step with the realities of the time, someone who would like to have big unions interests overide all non union Canadians interests and have us pay for their inflated wages? or perhaps Michael Ignatieff leading a party who own interest to be re-elected overrides any concern the average Canadian has in these tough economic times? Or -- a party who has the support of the majority of all Canadians because they speak and address the concerns of the average Canadian ? I say its time to support a party and candidate who can lead and represent the interests of New West- Coquitlam; her name is Diana Dilworth.

Here in the riding of New Westminster-Coquitlam, we are APPARENTLY in the middle of an epic federal by-election. Though if you ask people on the streets, many would not know much about it, some would have no awareness at all, and the majority would probably not care. In the end, the results of the by-election will be decided by the 5 to 25% of voters who show up at the polls. Until then, election signs sprout like mushrooms in the autumn forest on lawns and road medians. Liberal red and white signs remind me of the Fly Agaric (amanita) mushrooms that signal imminent danger. Orange NDP posts and signs evoke memories of the exquisite taste and delights of chewing on ruddy Chanterelles. But those are very deceptive promises that may easily fool the minds of naïve and trusting people, like yours truly.

We, the taxpayers are on the hook for half a million dollars for this by-election, precisely because of the indigestive variety of the NDP mushroom, whom we picked last autumn – named, if anyone cares to remember, as Dawn Black. She opportunistically reneged on her election promises, by resigning her Parliament seat as soon as she maximized her MP pension and then immediately jumped to the safety of a Provincial Legislative seat. It is thanks to her that our electoral district is experiencing a forth federal election in 5 years.

The Black Effect most likely will lead to a city by-election in Coquitlam or in Port-Moody, depending on which of two city councilors will win the election battle – Conservative candidate Diane Dillworth or Fin Donnelly from the NDP. I would estimate the damage to taxpayers to be another $100,000. But that is not it! A win for Liberal candidate Ken Beck Lee or the NDP candidate would create an irresistible opportunity for the leadership of the opposition parties to trigger yet another general election faster than Global Warming could melt for good the Olympic snow and ice in Whistler. That would not only cost taxpayers another $350 million, but also create political instability that could destroy Canada’s fragile recovery from the worst financial crisis in the last two generations.

It is a high time to look with open eyes at all these indigestible lawn signs that mushroom around us in time for Halloween. These signs definitely scare me into voting on November 9th.
