Blink-182's Mark Hoppus loves Vancouver's Japandroids

You’ve seen them on the cover of the Georgia Straight, not to mention the pages of just about every taste-making publication in North America. Now, the Japandroids have been named the new favourite band of Mark Hoppus.

In the first installment of a new weekly Spin on-line feature called Hopp on Pop, the booby-obsessed bassist for Blink-182 speaks glowingly of the Vancouver noise-pop duo, arguing that "There are a lot of two-piece acts out there right now and some are really great, but Japandroids just sound really different from anything out there."

In his pick-of-the-week piece, Hoppus reveals that he discovered Japandroids while getting his hair cut. His barber likes to talk music with him and turned him onto the team of singer-guitarist Brian King and drummer David Prowse.

Hoppus singles out "Heart Sweats" as his favourite track on Japandroids debut album, Post-Nothing, noting that it reminds him of early Smashing Pumpkins.

For those looking to see the local media darlings in the flesh, Japandroids play the Biltmore Cabaret on December 2.

Hoppus? This is like an anti-endorsement

Apparently Mark Hoppus has never heard No Age.

I kid!

Anyone remember,
their Enema of the State album? This makes me laugh.

Japandroids and No Age have a similar gear set-up, drummer and guitar into a clean amp and distorted amp, but they do sound very different.

I know. I was just kidding, based on the fact that almost everyone makes that comparison. In fact, I prefer Japandroids to No Age.
